2017 Technical Meeting: Your Passport to Success

While “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” might have been a favorite among comedy movies, anyone in business knows that plenty of hard work, effort and sweat equity goes into success. The sports facility construction industry is no exception to this rule.

The good news is this: you can get a great start on the road to success by attending the ASBA Technical Meeting. The meeting, which will be held December 1-5, 2017, in New Orleans, Louisiana, has everything you need to make progress toward your goals.

Nowhere else can you find the industry-specific technical programming and continuing that can help you continue your journey toward excellence in the industry. A variety of topics will be offered for those who design, build and supply materials and equipment for tennis, track, fields, courts & recreational facilities, indoor facilities and more. Plus, there will be a programming series covering business, legal and other information that can help you advance the interests of your company.

Want some highlights of the educational sessions that are in store? Here are just a few:

  • The 4 “Ps” of Short Court Sports (Pop, Padel, Pickleball, Platform) + Futsol

  • Atlanta Braves New Field: A Case Study

  • Alternative Infills from Third-Party Perspective

  • SEO Fundamentals – From Keywords to Localization, Blog Posts, Image Tagging and More, Learn What Fundamental “On-Page” Search Engine Optimization Techniques Will Help You Pull In More Traffic

  • Soft Courts (Red Overlays, Sub-Irrigation, etc.)

  • The Effects of Weather on Polyurethane

  • Layout & Design – Double Bend, Steeple Chase, Javelin

  • Fence Design/Windscreen Application

  • Geotechnical Reports Demystified

  • RFP Deliveries, Method Scoring and Project Closeout

…and these are just some of the sessions in store for you. ASBA is a continuing education provider for LA CES and ASLA – and our sessions are always well-attended. We also have an outstanding keynote speaker, Garrison Wynn – for more information, see the adjacent article – but as a sneak peak, Garrison will have you laughing, learning and enjoying your morning.

You’ll also get the chance to put in time toward enriching your contact file. At the Technical Meeting, you’ll be able to catch up with longtime colleagues and to make new ones. We’re expecting a lot of new faces in the crowd, so this is your chance to get out and meet all those members of the industry you haven’t managed to catch up with yet.

With two days full of intensive programming, plus additional days that bring opportunities to take certification exams (learn more about that in this newsletter), attend meetings of committees and task forces, catch up on Association business and more, nobody can afford to miss this meeting.

What else? You can’t forget about ASBA’s trade show! The Technical Meeting has an exhibit hall just full of the sports-specific products and services you want to learn about. Whether it’s the latest in new technology or the longtime favorites, this is the place you want to be. Plus, since the exhibit hall is the site of receptions, breaks and some meals, you’ll have time to see what you want.

Want some down-time that doesn’t involve business? We have you covered there too. Our tennis and golf outings prove the Technical Meeting isn’t all about board meetings and trade shows. You’ll be able to spend some time in good-natured competition with colleagues and competitors, and to vie for bragging rights.

What else? You’ll get to find out who will take top honors in ASBA’s awards program, learn what the Board of Directors is planning for the Association in months to come, and in general, catch up on everything you’ll need to know.

And while we’re at it, look at the top-notch city that is hosting all this. New Orleans is one of ASBA’s favorite destinations, and this year’s meeting site puts you in the center of it all. We’ll be at the Hyatt Regency New Orleans, located right next door to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, Smoothie King Center and Champions Square, Hyatt Regency New Orleans offers easy access to the area’s most popular attractions. Hop on the Loyola Avenue Streetcar, or take a walk to the historic French Quarter, Arts District, Audubon Aquarium of the Americas and the scenic Mississippi Riverfront. Your downtime will be so enjoyable, you might want to build an extra day (or more) into your stay!

ASBA members should have received the Technical Meeting brochure by now; others can request to be added to the mailing list. Information is also being carried on the ASBA website
