2017 Technical Meeting:
The Most Valuable Time You'll Invest All Year

When you’ve finished your busy season…

When you’re not quite ready to think about the next one…

When you really need to reconnect with your colleagues and your industry…

…it’s time to make plans to go to the ASBA Technical Meeting. The meeting, which will be held December 1-5, 2017, in New Orleans, Louisiana, has everything you need to decompress from this season and still stay on top of your game.

The technical programming and continuing education will bring new opportunities to enrich your knowledge and continue your journey toward excellence in the industry. A variety of topics will be offered for those who design, build and supply materials and equipment for tennis, track, fields, courts & recreational facilities, indoor facilities and more. Plus, there will be a programming series covering business, legal and other information that can help you advance the interests of your company.

Want some highlights of the educational sessions that are in store? Here are just a few:

  • The 4 “Ps” of Short Court Sports (Pop, Padel, Pickleball, Platform) + futsal

  • Atlanta Braves New Field: A Case Study

  • Alternative Infills from Third-Party Perspective

  • SEO Fundamentals – From Keywords to Localization, Blog Posts, Image Tagging and More, Learn What Fundamental “On-Page” Search Engine Optimization Techniques Will Help You Pull In More Traffic

  • Soft Courts (Red Overlays, Sub-Irrigation, etc.)

  • The Effects of Weather on Polyurethane

  • Layout & Design – Double Bend, Steeple Chase, Javelin

  • Fence Design/Windscreen Application

  • Geotechnical Reports Demystified

  • RFP Deliveries, Method Scoring and Project Closeout

…and these are just some of the sessions in store for you. ASBA is a continuing education provider for LA CES and ASLA – and our sessions are always well-attended. We also have an outstanding keynote speaker, Garrison Wynn – for more information, see the adjacent article – but as a sneak peak, Garrison will have you laughing, learning and enjoying your morning.

With two days full of intensive programming, plus additional days that bring opportunities to take certification exams, attend meetings of committees and task forces, catch up on Association business and more, nobody can afford to miss this meeting. Think of it as time well spent – and the technical program is just the start.

Another highlight is our exhibit hall. ASBA’s Technical Meeting has a trade show with the products and services you want to learn about. Whether it’s brand-new, cutting-edge technology or longtime favorites, this is the place you want to be. Plus, since the exhibit hall is the site of receptions, breaks and some meals, you’ll have time to see what you want.

Want to catch up with colleagues outside of the meeting? There are plenty of opportunities. Our tennis and golf outings mean the Technical Meeting isn’t all business – you can spend some time in good-natured competition with colleagues and competitors, and blow off some steam.

What else? You’ll get to find out who will take top honors in ASBA’s awards program, learn what the Board of Directors is planning for the Association in months to come, and in general, catch up on everything you’ll need to know.

And while we’re at it, you couldn’t ask for a better backdrop. New Orleans is one of ASBA’s favorite destinations, and this year’s meeting site puts you in the center of it all. We’ll be at the Hyatt Regency New Orleans, located right next door to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, Smoothie King Center and Champions Square, Hyatt Regency New Orleans offers easy access to the area’s most popular attractions. Hop on the Loyola Avenue Streetcar, or take a walk to the historic French Quarter, Arts District, Audubon Aquarium of the Americas and the scenic Mississippi Riverfront. Your downtime will be so enjoyable, you might want to build an extra day into your stay!

More information on this meeting, including announcements concerning the keynote speaker and the topics to be covered in the technical program, will be available soon. Members will receive the brochure automatically; others can request to be added to the mailing list. Information will also be carried on the ASBA website, www.sportsbuilders.org.
