ASBA’s Regional Meeting Coming to New York:
Bringing the Meeting to the Members

ASBA has often heard great comments about its meetings, but one thing is always clear: No matter where a meeting is held, there are members who are unable to get to it. This year, ASBA solves that quandary by bringing the meeting to the members. ASBA’s first regional meeting will be held March 8-9, 2017 at the Marriott New York LaGuardia Airport in LaGuardia, New York.

The Regional Meeting is a chance for sports facility contractors in a given area to connect with one another – and to attend educational sessions on industry matters. The Association chose the New York area because of the high concentration of current ASBA members there, as well as the number of potential companies in the area who are not yet members. And because the meeting is only two days in duration, it allows for maximum benefit with minimum out-of-office time.

One goal of the meeting is to encourage networking among members and to allow for opportunities for outreach within the sports construction community; however, it also offers some unique chances to those who attend. One will be to hear John Sulinski, vice president of operations and COO of LandTek, speak on the subject of “Natural Grass Technologies at Citi Field.”

Sulinski’s career experience includes managing the field construction for the New York Mets, New York Jets, and the New York Red Bulls, New York City Football Club, and Brooklyn Cyclones. He was directly involved with large scale construction projects at St. Dominic’s, Dowling College, Stony Brook Lavalle Stadium, and St. Joseph’s College. At LandTek, he has implemented the use of project management and computer-aided design software. He has also researched and implemented the use of laser grading technology as well as robotic surveying equipment.

In addition to industry education sessions, there will be a reception/dinner/tour of the NY Mets home, Citi Field and a tour of the updated National Tennis Center in Flushing, New York. Those who haven’t seen one (or both) of these venues will enjoy tours that take in points of specific interest to industry members.

Want to attend? Make your hotel reservations early. The deadline is FEBRUARY 14, 2017. Reservations can be made online or by calling 800-228-9290 or 718-565-8900. The ASBA room rate is $169.

The New York LaGuardia Airport Marriott has an unbeatable location close to Manhattan and less than one mile from LaGuardia Airport. In addition to offering a free shuttle service to and from LaGuardia Airport, the hotel allows for simple access to top destinations in Queens, such as our tour sites, including Citi Field and Arthur Ashe Stadium.
