ASBA Announces Publication of New Sports Field Manual
New, streamlined format allows for ease of use

ASBA has announced the publication of the 2014 edition of Sports Fields: A Construction and Maintenance Manual.

The book has been updated to reflect not only rule changes from national governing bodies, but current trends in the industry. In addition, it includes new and expanded information, featuring chapters on multi-use fields as well as on sustainability and on reclamation and reconstruction of artificial turf fields that have reached the end of their useful life. Chapters have also been added on design and construction of artificial turf fields for populations with mobility impairments, as well as the use of turf (artificial and natural) in non-sports field applications.

Other updates to the book allow for ease of use. There are exterior labs to delineate chapters and a better flow of information.

Technical information on all aspects of fields for various sports is arranged in a more logical timeline, and includes design, budgeting and planning, site requirements, surface selection, construction, maintenance, repair, amenities and accessories and more. In addition, it includes diagrams, photos, governing bodies and sources for further information.

“In the new edition, we’ve made the book much more user-friendly,” says Dan Wright, CFB, ASBA’s chairman, and one of the committee members who worked to update and rewrite the manual. “We’ve reorganized the information for natural and synthetic fields into a much more logical flow -- from conception to construction to completion -- and included extensive chapters on maintenance and repair and renovation.”

Copies of the new edition of the book are now available at a cost of $44.95 each and are available in hard copy as well as in digital form. Books can be ordered by contacting ASBA at 866-501-ASBA (2722), or by going to the web site,
