Strong Preliminary
Interest in Upcoming Technical Meeting
|
 |
Early registrations for the
upcoming Technical Meeting, being held December 4-7, in Ponte Vedra
Beach, Florida are running well ahead of last year’s Technical Meeting
(which set records for ASBA in 2009). A strong program,
internationally-recognized keynote speaker Robert Stevenson, an
attractive destination with world-class golf and tennis venues, strong
interest in ASBA’s certification programs/exams, and the promise of
networking with industry peers about what’s working and what’s not lead
the list of reasons people plan to attend.

Don't Forget Your
Passport. Make Plans to Attend the Winter Meeting in the Bahamas

will be held February 11-13,
2011 at the Atlantis Resort in

It's Time "IZE" Get On
With It
Realize, Rationalize,
Economize, Capitalize, Formulize, Actualize
In our current economic environment it isn't hard to have a "Pity Party"
and gather up a whole bunch of people who would love to attend and share
their stories of how bad things are going for them, how unfair, and how
it wasn't really their fault. For most of us the obvious has set in;
we've lost a lot of money in our 401-Ks and stock portfolio, the housing
market is terrible, the economy is weak and it's going to take some time
to just get back to where we were (hopefully).

ASBA Launches Redesigned
Website
Enhanced options, graphics,
user-friendliness characterize new site
ASBA launched its redesigned
web site in September. The site,
www.sportsbuilders.org, which
features multiple enhancements,
is expected to allow for ease of
use for association members, the
sports industry, media and
general public.

ASBA Builder Certifications Help
You Compete
ASBA’s voluntary builder
certification programs — in
tennis, track and fields —allow
members to demonstrate a high
level of expertise in
construction of specific
athletic facilities. The
programs were developed by the
ASBA to help raise professional
standards and improve the
practice of sports facility
construction, but at the same
time, they work well as a
marketing tool for individuals
and their companies at the
bidding table.

NFHS Releases High School
Athletics Participation Summary
Is the recession over? Depends on who's talking and who's still feeling
the pinch. But here's some good news for the athletic facility
construction industry: sports participation is up at the high school
level. And more players using sports facilities means a need for more
facilities and better-equipped facilities. Plus it also bodes well for
students continuing their athletic interests through college and beyond.

ITF Court Recognition
Program Slated for Spring 2011
During the recent USTA Technical
Committee meeting held in New
York in September, Dr. Stuart
Miller discussed the ITF Court
Recognition Program being
planned for 2011. The voluntary
ITF Court Recognition program
would be an acknowledgement that
a court meets the
recommendations provided in the
ITF Guide to Test Methods for
Tennis Court Surfaces.

May We Quote You?
One of ASBA's most important
programs is its technical articles, which are written for trade
magazines in various segments of the industry, including tennis, track,
indoor and fields facilities. We are always looking for our members to
comment on, and be quoted in these articles. This is an excellent chance
to help raise ASBA's profile, and in an ancillary capacity, to increase
visibility for your company. If you would like to be quoted in these
articles, please send an e-mail to Mary Helen Sprecher at
mhsprecher@verizon.net.
Please indicate your area(s) of expertise: Tennis, Track, Indoor, Fields
so that we do not bother you with excess e-mail. You can be added to
more than one mailing list if you wish.
If you have previously sent Mary Helen an e-mail asking to be added to
her e-mail list, please confirm now that you would like to remain on the
list. In addition, if your e-mail has changed and you have not been
receiving questions, please contact her with your current e-mail
address.
Call for Articles: Seeking
Submissions to Newsline
Would you like to contribute to a future issue of
Newsline? Articles to be submitted to Newsline should address topics
that are of interest to the general membership.
