New
Versatile Outdoor Adhesive
 |
NORDOT® Adhesive #34P-4 from Synthetic
Surfaces Inc. is a new, one component outdoor adhesive that was
designed to install and/or repair synthetic turf and other
outdoor surfaces in widely variable and sometimes hostile
weather conditions. It fills the need for a versatile adhesive
which allows the outdoor installation and repair season to
expand from only “fair weather” days to year-round. Synthetic
turf surfaces that benefit are: playgrounds, athletic fields,
landscaping, tennis, golf, rooftops, airports and lounging
areas.
NORDOT® Adhesive #34P-4 can be applied to a dry or damp surface
at any outdoor temperature and humidity in which an installer
can work. It is particularly useful in cold weather, when turf
installations and repairs usually stop because, to our
knowledge, no other adhesive can be used for installation from
hot desert temperatures down to below |
freezing.
After curing, NORDOT® Adhesive
#34P-4 has outstanding
durability both above ground and
under water.

Sportica
and TigerTurf Team Up for First
Pro Trophy Turf Installation in
Canada at Mill Woods Sports Park
Sportica,
Inc. has completed Canada’s
first installation of ProTrophy
Turf manufactured by TigerTurf
Americas for Mill Woods Sports
Park in the City of Edmonton,
Alberta. The new field has
secured a prestigious 2 Star
certification from Fédération
Internationale de Football
Association (FIFA).
Mill Woods Sports Park is
located at 2730 66 Street in
Edmonton. The new field opened
for public use in July 2011 and
already is being well received,
according to Gary Chung, project
coordinator for recreation
facility development with the
Department of Community Services
at the City of Edmonton.
Sportica, an authorized dealer
of TigerTurf Americas since
January 2010, replaced natural
grass and completed the
installation of 113,750 square
feet of ProTrophy Turf for the
Mill Woods artifical turf
sportsfield within a three-week
timeframe. The 236-foot by
482-foot athletic field includes
game lines for football, soccer
and field hockey.
“ProTrophy Turf is manufactured
at TigerTurf Americas’
facilities in Austin, Texas,
with TenCate’s patented
manufacturing process of
monofilament turf fibers,”
explained Bob Aurich, regional
sales manager for TigerSports
Americas, Inc.
Project Details
The City of Edmonton selected
Sportica through a formal
Request for Proposal (RFP)
process.
“For the Mill Woods project, the
City of Edmonton was searching
for a product that could
accommodate a high volume of
users while also providing a
quality playing surface in all
types of weather. Through our
RFP process and by comparing
product specifications, we
determined that TigerTurf's
ProTrophy Turf was the product
that would best meet our needs,”
Chung said. “With Sportica, we
recognized extensive experience
in installing artificial turf in
a range of conditions,
particularly those with a
climate similar to Edmonton.
Sportica was responsive to our
needs and was able to
accommodate a last minute
addition of field hockey lines
to the project scope without
delays to the installation
schedule.”
Chung said that athletes and
coaches are enjoying the
benefits of consistent, safe
playing surface, noting that
they appreciate the feel of the
artificial turf and how well the
surface responds in a variety of
weather conditions given that
Edmonton has experienced many
days of rain. Chung expects
usage of the new field to exceed
2,000 hours annually as compared
with 600 hours of usage with the
natural grass field.
“The resilience of the new
surface will allow the playing
season to extend earlier in the
spring and later into the fall -
rain, snow or shine,” Chung
commented. “The aesthetics of
the ProTrophy product have been
a surprising benefit: more than
our other existing artificial
turf fields, we have received
comments on how good the new
ProTrophy field looks. The dual
profile fibers and multi-tone
colors incorporated in the
product give a more natural look
to the field. I've even been
asked by the general public how
they can have this product
installed at their residences!”
Chung explained what FIFA 2 Star
certification means for the City
of Edmonton and also for those
who enjoy play on the fields at
the park: “The FIFA 2 Star
certification has several
benefits for the City of
Edmonton. The most important
benefit is having the peace of
mind that the playing surface of
the Mill Woods field has been
manufactured and installed to a
high standard according to the
quality concept outlined by
FIFA. The certification also
raises the City's profile in
making Edmonton more appealing
to host larger scale soccer
events and tournaments.”
Sylvain Leclair, president of
Sportica, said that the new Mill
Woods synthetic field is one of
10 that Sportica has installed
in Canada with TigerTurf
Americas.
Leclair explained: “We decided
to have this installation tested
to determine if the ProTrophy
Turf met FIFA performance
criteria and if we could secure
FIFA certification. Prior to the
installation, the ProTrophy had
been subjected to several lab
tests to determine if the
construction of the carpet met
the FIFA requirement and if the
complete system met the FIFA 2
star strict standards for
performance. For example, tests
were performed on ball roll,
ball bounce, surface
deformation, rotational
resistance and other factors
conducive to better playability.
After the installation at Mill
Woods Park, the ProTrophy
material was tested on site to
confirm that it matched what was
tested in the lab and if the
installed turf again met the
FIFA requirements. All tests
were completed by an
independent, certified FIFA
Laboratory.
“Achieving a FIFA 2 Star rating
is better and more difficult to
achieve because a significantly
higher level of performance is
required,” Leclair said.

29 Gyms Ready for Action
This fall,
many students in Georgia will
return to find a brand new floor
in their school gymnasium. Since
the beginning of summer, Tarkett
Sports has installed an
unprecedented 29 gyms across the
state using the popular
Omnisports flooring system.
Eighteen of these projects
utilized the innovative GreenLay™
installation method, which is
98% adhesive free. This method
allowed the gyms to be installed
faster than traditional, full
adhesive installations giving
each gym less downtime. GreenLay™
also gives each gym greater
moisture protection without
using an expensive moisture
barrier.
During a time
when schools districts have
smaller budgets for renovation,
these installations are a
testament to the strength of the
Omnisports product as a high
performance and cost effective
sports floor. They are also
indicative of the value
customers place on the service
they receive from Tarkett Sports
and its partners.
Tarkett
Sports is a division of the
Tarkett Group, which was
established in 1886. The Tarkett
Group has now reached over $2.5
billion in annual sales and is a
global leader in commercial,
residential and sports flooring.
Tarkett Sports surfacing
solutions include hardwood and
synthetic basketball courts,
volleyball courts, multi-purpose
gymnasium floors, weight room
floor protection, running
tracks, and its world-renowned
FieldTurf brand of artificial
turf.
Omnisports 8.3 GreenLayTM
is Now a Category 3-Shock
Absorbing Sports Floor
With an improved backing system,
Tarkett Sports’ Omnisports 8.3
GreenLay™ is now a category 3
shock absorbing sports floor.
According to the ASTM F2772
standard, Category 3 flooring
offers shock absorption between
34% and 45% while maintaining a
ball-rebound factor above 90%.
In relation to categories 1 and
2, this means optimal game
performance with a reduced
likelihood of injury due to
impact; as a category 3 sports
floor, Omnisports 8.3 GreenLay™
offers an ideal solution to
sports facilities that value
quality game-play and safety.
In addition to the advantages of
a category 3 surface, Omnisports
8.3 GreenLay™ is installed with
98% less adhesive than other
sports floors. It can also
tolerate up to 92% relative
humidity or 15 lbs. of moisture!
This means quick installation,
reduced cost, and fewer problems
related to moisture conditions.
Most importantly for the
environment, Omnisports 8.3
GreenLay™ is easier to recycle
than alternative sports floors.
With over 250,000 sq. ft. of
Omnisports 8.3 GreenLay™ and
Omnisports 6.5 GreenLay™
installed in North America,
GreenLay™ is becoming the new
standard for high quality sports
flooring.
