This Year's Technical Meeting Speaker: Jim "The Rookie" Morris

Ready to be inspired? Want to learn how to connect your dreams with reality? This year’s Technical Meeting keynote speaker will help you do just that.

Jim “The Rookie” Morris’ inspirational and transformational message about following your dreams and having a game plan for success will help ASBA attendees believe in all the possibilities facing them. Jim’s life story was the true inspiration behind the Walt Disney blockbuster film, “The Rookie,” starring Dennis Quaid.

To motivate his ragtag high school baseball team, Jim, as a 35-year-old schoolteacher, made a bet that he would try out for the big leagues if his team won a district championship. When Jim’s team won, he followed through on his promise, going to a tryout

where he threw 12 consecutive pitches at 98 miles per hour. (Yes, you read those numbers right. A 35-year-old schoolteacher. 12 pitches. 98 miles per hour.)

Like that? Here are some other numbers to motivate you. Three months later, in front of family and his high school team, Jim achieved his dream of pitching in the big leagues by striking out the first hitter he faced.

The lesson here? It doesn’t matter who you are—we can all fulfill our goals and achieve our dreams. Jim Morris’ story takes place on a baseball diamond, but it’s really about life. Jim experienced early-life failures and a tough upbringing, and used both to map out his success in business, family, and community.

You won’t soon forget this story of a triumph over adversity, nor of defying the odds. More importantly, you’ll be inspired to set and achieve your own goals in business and in your personal life – and maybe even on the sports field too (just as Jim did).

Keep an eye out for the 2013 Technical Meeting brochure, and be there for Jim’s keynote address. Make contact with Jim’s pitch – it’s a one-of-a-kind opportunity for future success.
