Business is Picking Up and ASBA is Keeping Pace

Mark Brogan, CTCB

ASBA Chairman

With the economy picking up in many parts of the country, things seem to be getting busier. It’s probably time to dust off that list of contacts and start following up on projects that were “back-burnered” a couple years ago. Best wishes to all of us on making 2013 one of the best in recent years.

The Fields Editorial Board has been hard at work on the latest revision of the Sports Fields: Construction and Maintenance Manual. Advertising is currently being sold, and the manual is expected to be in circulation this fall. The Indoor Sports Surfaces: A Construction and Maintenance Manual is also being revised. The new manual, which will include hardwood surfaces with this revision, is expected to be in circulation in 2014. Many thanks to the volunteers who are contributing to these two very important publications.

The ASBA Marketing Committee and Website Task Force have been looking closely at ASBA’s web presence and marketing strategy. In addition to the print and electronic advertising that ASBA places through our industry publications and media partners, we experimented this past spring with Google Ads. The goal is to drive as many people to www.sportsbuilders.org as possible, and to encourage your potential customers to use our online ASBA directory to connect with you. We will be redesigning the ASBA website to enable it for “responsive design,” making it more compatible for viewers using iPhones or iPads. We’re very much trying to keep up with the times, so that all ASBA members will benefit.

December seems like a long way off, but it is actually right around the corner. Make sure you have December 6-10 on your calendar and are planning to be at the ASBA Technical Meeting in San Antonio, Texas. Materials will be sent out later this summer. This year’s meeting will focus on the many “Connections” that ASBA fosters in the industry. The trade show will feature a new “Connections” lounge and we are encouraging our members to schedule meetings and appointments within the lounge – the perfect setting for your ASBA networking experience. Early interest among your suppliers is high; and additional time slots have been added to the technical program to provide for more technical sessions than ever before. Getting to San Antonio is convenient, and the hotel’s location on the famous Riverwalk will provide an exciting venue for this year’s meeting. I’m looking forward to seeing all of you there.

Have a great summer!
