ASBA Winter Meeting: A Success Under Sunny Skies

Sunny skies, tropical breezes and time well spent on Association projects. The ASBA Winter Meeting, held in late February at the Paradisus Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic, offered all that and more.

A large number of ASBA members and their guests attended the meeting which for the first time in Association history, took place at an all-inclusive resort.

The program presented during the meeting included a variety of sessions designed to help the ASBA accomplish more. Meetings were scheduled according to membership divisions, and targeted projects being undertaken by that division. Tennis, Track, Fields and Indoor participants, therefore, were able to discuss specific projects and programs of interest and relevance. For example, the Indoor Division was able to move toward completion of the book, Indoor Sports Surfaces: A Construction and Maintenance Manual. In addition, divisions developed Technical Meeting programming topics, discussed awards applications and assigned position papers to be used on ASBA’s website.

After sessions were completed each day, participants and their guests were free to take advantage of all the resort offered, including the beach, pools, water sports, recreational activities, the health club, restaurants, lounges and more. Many opted just to enjoy the open air lobby, enjoying a cool drink and taking in the tropical breezes.

The meeting, traditionally a break in the middle of the winter lull, drew a strong cross-section of members, including builders, suppliers, professionals and more.

Those who missed this Winter Meeting can mark their calendars for the next one, to be held February 20-22, 2015 at the Grand Lucayan on Grand Bahama Island.

Information is expected to be available after the next Technical Meeting (for information on this event, please see the article elsewhere in this newsletter). Members of ASBA will receive this automatically; all others can request to be put on the mailing list by calling 866-501-ASBA (2722) or www.sportsbuilders.org. Information will also be posted on the ASBA website as it becomes available.
