Aacer Flooring Hires Harry Prater, Promotes Jeff Williams

Aacer Flooring, a northern hardwood flooring manufacturer, is proud to announce that Harry Prater has joined them as their Northeast Regional Manager for their sports division. With 25 years of experience working in the hardwood flooring industry and with the A & D community, Prater will prove to be a great benefit to Aacer and its customers. Prater has represented manufacturers and dealers, both regionally and nationally, in the industrial, school system, university and church markets.

Prater will cover West Virginia, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine and Quebec, Newfoundland, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick in Canada.

Aacer Flooring also announced the promotion of Jeff Williams to Director of Sports Sales. Williams will lead the sports sales team and help further develop sales, marketing and the business plan while continuing to serve as the Midwest Regional Sales Manager.

Jeff has been with Aacer for three years and has over 20-years’ experience in sports related businesses and has served in several management and leadership roles throughout his career.

Activitas Announces New Projects

Activitas is ready to begin the surfacing renovation at Gillette Stadium for the New England Patriots and the New England Revolution. After completion of the new field in April, Activitas will assist the Gillette Grounds Crew with the installation of a temporary natural grass pitch over the new turf for a Pre-World Cup “Friendly” between Mexico and Portugal on June 6th.

Activitas will also begin work this spring on new projects for Assumption College, Clark University, Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.


Clements Joins Advanced Polymer Technology Team Laykold Sales

Clements joins Team Laykold with 20+ years of sports marketing and brand development experience. Most recently, he served as Director of Athletics in Volusia County (Central Florida) where he established a successful and reputable high school athletic program, which was based on strategic marketing and solid operational/developmental plans.

During his tenure, Craig facilitated the process of securing college athletic scholarships for nearly 200 student athletes, as well as maintaining a 100% graduation rate, and a 95% rate of student athletes enrolling in college. Additionally, Craig served on numerous statewide elected committees with the Florida High School Athletic Association, and was a long time member of the Florida Athletic Coaches Association.

Craig has professional associations with many individuals/organizations in the sports construction industry. He will be responsible for Laykold sales including work with architects and engineers for approval and/or specification of the Laykold systems. Craig looks forward to contributing to the continued success of Advanced Polymer Technology and being a member of Team Laykold.


ATT Sports Completes Installations

ATT Sports, Inc. successfully completed two full size e-layer installations for the Spooky Nook Sports Complex located in Manheim, Pa. Spooky Nook Sports is the new home of the USA Field Hockey team. ATT Sports, Inc. is engaged in building running tracks and elastic layer bases for turf fields.


California Products Corp. Acquires Rebound Ace Sports®

California Products Corporation, a founding member of the ASBA and leading manufacturer of acrylic sports surfacing, has announced the acquisition of Rebound Ace Sports®, headquartered in Brisbane, Australia.

The acquisition of Rebound Ace® adds a third product line to the newly rebranded California Sports Surfaces division, which includes Plexipave®, the surface of the Australian Open since 2008 and DecoTurf® the surface of the US Open since 1978.

“This transaction offers a strategic fit that will add new products, brands, geographies and distribution channels to our existing footprint,” states California Products’ Chairman and CEO, Peter Longo. “We are committed to expansion and business augmentation. We will continue to seek out new market opportunities to advance our brands and products,” added Steven McMenamin the Company’s COO.

The acquisition will add to California Sports Surfaces’ already impressive stable of product offerings. The Rebound Ace High Shock Absorption (HSA) Club cushioned court uses the proven superior polyurethane rubber mat technology to reduce player fatigue and stress. Other unique product offerings include a squeegee applied water based epoxy which acts as a moisture seal in the acrylic application process.

Rebound Ace is the largest selling brand in Australia and New Zealand. Their location and manufacturing capabilities in Brisbane will be maintained to facilitate growth and efficiencies throughout Australia and Asia.

Plexipave Chosen as Surface of the 2014 Mexico Open

California Sports Surfaces, in collaboration with Novagrass Mexico, is excited to announce that Plexipave IW has been chosen as the new surface of the Mexico Open.

2014 marked the first year the tournament was played on an acrylic tennis court instead of a clay surface, in a change greatly influenced by the tournament at Indian Wells. The BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells, an ATP World Masters 1000 event, immediately follows the Mexico Open on the tennis calendar and is also played on Plexipave IW.

The Mexico Open (Abierto Mexicano Telcel) is an ATP World Tour 500 series and WTA international tournament presented by Telcel and HSBC. Since 2001 it has been played in Acapulco at the Fairmont Acapulco Princess. That same year it took on the WTA tour. The tournament features 9 tennis courts, among them is a 6,000 seat stadium court. On the ATP tour the Mexico Open is the last tournament in the “Golden Swing” series consisting of 4 Latin American based tournaments.

NovaGrass is Plexipave´s associate located in Mexico who specialize in a variety of sports surfaces including synthetic turf, rubber flooring, PVC surfaces, running tracks, etc. Owner Roberto Hess has been a frequent attendee at ASBA Technical Meetings and was even one of the winners of the 2008 tennis tournament in New Orleans!

The tournament was played February 24- March 1, 2014, with Grigor Dimitrov and Dominika Cibulkova capturing the singles titles.

California Sports Surfaces promotes Tom Magner

California Sports Surfaces is pleased to announce that Tom Magner has been named to the position of Marketing and Communications Manager.

Magner will be responsible for advertising and marketing duties and will oversee the Customer Service Department for the California Sports Surfaces division, while continuing his relationships with DecoTurf installers in the eastern US and Canada.

Tom has been with California Products for 16 years, serving as the Eastern Regional Manager for DecoTurf since 2002. He has been a frequent attendee of the annual Technical Meeting and currently serves on the ASBA Website Committee.


Connor Sports Delivers Basketball Conference Tournament Courts

March 2014 brought the NCAA tournaments, and this year, many were played on Connor Sport Courts. Ten conference tournament sites showcased Connor’s QuickLock Portable Courts. Each of the 10 courts was custom designed for the conference and built to deliver maximum performance and safety for the athletes. Conference Sites include:

Everlast UltraTile® Withstands Weights and Equipment Without Showing Wear and Tear

The University of Portland (UP) was founded in September 1901 by Portland, Ore., Archbishop Alexander Christie. Today, this private Catholic school has around 4,000 students. In addition to its focus on teaching and research, UP offers many extracurricular activities. This includes access to both indoor and outdoor recreational facilities at no charge.

One of these facilities, the Chiles Center, features a weight room exclusively for athletes that underwent a renovation. This transformation included upgrading the existing weight room. “We added about 1,200-square-feet of open floor space and two pieces of equipment,” said Bradford Scott, Director of Athletic Performance at the University of Portland. UP removed and replaced the existing rubber floor. “The existing floor was not ideal for a number of reasons,” said Scott. “It was too thin, ripped, was very dirty and difficult to clean.”

In its place, UP selected Everlast UltraTile®, which is manufactured by ECORE, a company that transforms reclaimed waste into unique performance surfacing. Designed with a patented “ultra” wear layer to provide unlimited design options, UltraTile is available in more than 18 standard patterns. By featuring a pedestal underside, these tiles help prevent cable clutter by routing fitness equipment wiring beneath the surface.

ECORE worked closely with UP to make sure the flooring contained the right colors. ECORE created a unique purple just for UP that matches the school colors for the field color and the logos. More than five UP logos were then placed at each of the lifting stations in the locking room. Another side of the room contains the UP pilot logo.

“ECORE did a very nice job; it looks terrific,” said Art Stevenson, the ECORE Commercial Flooring agent involved with this project. “The pilot logo goes across 21 tiles. The water jet cut color logo was very easy for the installer to put together. With the UltraTile there was nothing to it. They put it together with the dowels. No figuring out little bits and pieces.”

“We liked the color combinations, density of material, which is one-inch thick, the warranty, and the ability to drop bumpers on it, therefore eliminating platforms,” said Scott. In addition to adding visual excitement, Everlast UltraTile surpasses the noise and shock absorption qualities of any other fitness floor. UltraTile can withstand the constant dropping of weights and pounding of equipment without showing wear and tear.

“We talked about what type of flooring they required for the students using the facility,” said Stevenson. “They needed surfacing that would stand up to athletes using free weights. If you drop a weight on anything besides UltraTile, it will start showing wear. They need university strength flooring.”

“It looks great, and it’s safe for the students to train on,” said Scott.

ECORE Welcomes Olympians to Its Staff

ECORE International, a company that transforms reclaimed waste into unique performance surfacing, recently added three members of the U.S. Olympic Women’s Field Hockey Team to its staff as social media specialists. Based in Lancaster, Pa., these women will work on and off site, as they continue to train and play in preparation for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.

Lauren Crandall is a two-time Olympian (Beijing 2008 and London 2012), Captain of the Team, and one of only two current members with 200 international appearances. Crandall is from Doylestown, Pa., and holds a bachelor’s degree in Communications from Wake Forest University. She is currently working towards a graduate degree from DeVry University Keller Graduate School of Management.

Stefanie Fee has been a member of the Olympic Team since 2012 and is from Virginia Beach, Va. Fee holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Duke University.

Katie Reinprecht is a one-time Olympian (London 2012) from Perkasie, Pa. She holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Princeton University.

Labosport Board Announces New Organization

Labosport is pleased to announce that, following its annual Group meeting held in Glasgow, Scotland, on February 28th, the management team has validated a new organization for the Group.

The company will now operate under four Business Lines:

1. Test & Certification,
2. Technical Assistance,
3. Audit & Diagnosis; and
4. Education.

Aurélien Le Blan has been appointed Labosport International CEO and Labosport France Managing Director, taking effect as of March, 24. Aurélien, a Civil Engineer, started his career at A.T Kearney and joined Lafarge, a leading CAC 40 company, in 2003, where he held various positions as Director in Business Development, Corporate Audit and M&A. Since 2009, he had been a member of the Executive Committee of Lafarge Russia.

Alastair Cox, Labosport International Deputy CEO, will also take on the role of Corporate Development Director. Alastair will have the responsibility for international growth of the Group, defining international geographic and product line strategy. Additionally, Alastair will head the Education Business Line (Labosport Academy).

Dr Colin Young has been appointed as Managing Director of Labosport UK, taking effect as of 3rd of March.

Pascal Haxaire will be appointed Head of Group R&D and Innovation taking effect from June 1st. Pascal will be leading the Research & Development roadmap for the company.

Xavier Nicolau will join the team as Head of Group Sales & Marketing on the 22nd of April. Xavier is a seasoned sales professional with 15-year-experience in the industry and an in-depth knowledge of sports surfaces, gained through his work at a leading sport surface manufacturer, notably in the US, and various sports federations.

The new organization will ensure that Labosport provides its clients and partners the highest level of global service in the most effective way.


Point of Beginning Completes Osceola Project

This project included the development of a new athletic complex for the Osceola School District. Point of Beginning, alongside of HSR Associates, Inc., provided the school district with concept planning and master planning services during the pre-referendum stage. After the referendum was passed, Point of Beginning provided design and survey services to develop a 9-lane running track, synthetic turf football/soccer field, running and throwing event areas, new home and visitor bleachers, concession stand, restroom facilities, and press box. The project design included updated storm water management systems and detention areas, which included the installation of proper under drain systems, to correct existing flooding problems.


ProGrass Announces New Chief Operating Officer

ProGrass, LLC is pleased to announce, effective Jan. 24, Mark Weightman as the new Chief Operating Officer. Weightman has been with ProGrass close to 10 years and most recently held the position of Vice President of Management Operations. With this new position, Weightman will oversee all company operations.

Chris Sostarich Joins Putterman Athletics' Graphics Team

Since Putterman’s 2012 acquisition of Deland-based windscreen company CN Screening, Putterman’s historically strong windscreen business is booming. A large part of that success is Putterman’s growing Custom Graphics capabilities.

In the past ten years Putterman Athletics has pursued Custom Graphics technology and relationships to complement its cutting edge Custom Design, Fabrication, and Installation services. Quality Court Industries Teams Up with NFL and NBA to Build Community Sports Facilities

Joe Brown Park Running Track:

Quality Court Industries recently had the distinct honor to help the City of New Orleans realize an ambitious new recreational facility in the Hurricane damaged Eastern portion of the city. With funding assistance from the Drew Brees Foundation and the Friends of Joe Brown Park, Quality Court exceeded expectations. By utilizing recycled Nike shoes composing the Nike Grind surface, Quality Court not only built a much needed Premium Running Track, but in doing so, provided an environmentally friendly surface that will be utilized by many in that region for years to come.

Picard Park Basketball Court:

Quality Court Industries is the ‘go to’ Basketball Court Contractor for the New Orleans Pelicans (previously Hornets) Professional Basketball Team. The Pelicans have enacted an initiative to refurbish parks and playgrounds in regions around South Louisiana. Quality Court Industries is working closely with The Pelicans to completely re-build and re-surface multiple basketball courts at public playgrounds in several areas. Recently, Quality Court re-surfaced Picard Park Basketball Courts in Lafayette, La. According to Sam Russo (former Team Executive and current Consultant), “I think the courts look great and is an excellent first ever Pelicans court!” It’s an exciting time for the Pelicans as they are re-branding this year with the new Team Name and Logo, and Quality Court is very proud to have had the distinction of bringing the new team colors to a facility where families from all over can enjoy.

Sportsfield Specialties Announces New Regional Managers

Sportsfield Specialties Inc. (SSI), which has enjoyed a rapid expansion of its manufacturing business since opening its own factory in Delhi, NY in 2004, has named two new regional managers. Taking over as Northeast Regional Manager is Matt Moyse while the new Mountain Regional Manager is Chad Rockefeller. The appointments were announced by David Moxley, Director of Sports Construction Sales for SSI.

Based at SSI’s corporate headquarters in Delhi, Moyse started with the company in July, 2008 focusing on aftermarket sales and marketing. In May, 2009 he was named Customer Service Manager for the Western and Southeast regions. He held that post until February, 2012 when he took on similar duties for the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. His regional territory includes Connecticut, Massachusetts Maine, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont. He replaces Sean Clark, who has taken on the newly created post of Director of Aftermarket Sales for SSI.

Moyse grew up in Delhi and in 2001 graduated from Delaware Academy & Central School where he was a three-sport letter-winner. After completing his freshman year at Lynchburg (VA) College, he transferred to Binghamton (NY) University where he earned a B.S. in Political Science in 2005.

Rockefeller has opened his home office in Austin, TX and will cover his regional territory—Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Kansas, Colorado, Utah, Nebraska, Wyoming, and Montana--from there. He replaces Rob Mason, who retired from SSI in early February. Rockefeller first joined SSI in January 2012 as Western Regional Sales Manager for Sports Specialties, the interiors division of SSI that manufactures gymnasium equipment for the K-12 and recreation markets.

Rockefeller graduated from Delaware Academy & Central School in Delhi in 2007 and went on to earn his B.A. in Business Administration from Hartwick College in Oneonta, NY in 2011. A three-sport letter-winner in high school, he played football at Division. III Hartwick where he was a three-year starter at defensive end and earned All Empire 8 Conference honors as a senior in 2010. At Hartwick, he played football alongside his twin brother, Nate, who works for SSI’s sister company, Promats Athletics, as a sales rep.

“Matt and Chad are most deserving of these important opportunities,” said Moxley. “There is great potential for sales growth in their respective regions and I am confident they have the energy, determination and personality to succeed in their new posts. Both have shown that they fit the customer-driven culture of our company perfectly.”

New ISO 9001 Certification Puts Sprinturf in a League of Their Own

SPRINTURF, the only fully integrated synthetic turf company in North America that manufactures 100 percent of its products in-house and in the USA, today announced that it is ISO 9001 certified. According to the ISO, this standard is based on a number of quality management principles including the motivation and implication of top management, the process approach, and continual improvement.

Although not an ISO requirement, SPRINTURF invited the independent certification body, Quality Systems Enhancement (QSE), to verify its conformity to the standard. This intensive, comprehensive process addressed each element in the standard and included a mix of specialized training, consulting and auditing by QSE. 

 


TMG Proud to be Synthetic Turf Sports Field Specialist of Choice for Largest Sports Complex in U.S.

The Motz Group (TMG) is honored to be the sole synthetic turf field specialist for what will become the largest sports complex in the United States, Grand Park Sports Campus. Located in Westfield, Indiana, Grand Park features 400-acres of sports-related attractions including seven synthetic multi-purpose and eight synthetic baseball fields. With nearly 60 outdoor playing surfaces plus two indoor facilities, Grand Park will be the host site for many athletic events, including local, regional, and national sports tournaments, along with community sporting contests.

A project of this size and caliber requires detailed planning, carefully executed logistics, and a suite of well-vetted providers. Countless back-to-back games combined with 1,500,000 plus sports visitors expected per year calls for quality assurance, product durability, and a reliable service model. Equipped with nearly 40 years of experience and a sheer passion for perfection, TMG recognized an immediate synergy and arose to the challenge.

We arrived onsite at Grand Park this past August, and have been working continuously to prepare for the facility’s opening scheduled for April 2014. TMG is tasked with delivering 15 quality-built synthetic turf fields to the state-of-the-art facility. Each synthetic turf system, TriplePlay for the baseball fields and SportGrass for the soccer fields, is specifically designed and engineered to perform at the highest levels and will be center stage for athletes ranging from youth to college, on through to professional.
