Frequently Asked Questions:

How much work is expected of Board of Directors members?

Answer: Nominees should understand that serving as an ASBA leader involves a fair amount of time, effort and expense.

The Board meets three times a year at the Technical Meeting, at the Winter Meeting and, in the summer. Members of the Board are responsible for all travel expenses related to these meetings. Additionally, they must pay meeting registration fees and lodging costs at the Technical Meeting and lodging costs at the Winter Meeting. Also, Executive Committee conference calls are held when the need arises, as are occasional Board conference calls. Board meetings involve substantial pre-meeting preparation and often result in post-meeting assignments. Serving as an officer or director, therefore, involves year-round activity.

Apart from these requirements, candidates should be committed to the Association and should enthusiastically support its goals and objectives.

How do nominations work?

Answer: You may nominate yourself or someone else for the positions above. If you are nominating someone else, you must get that person’s agreement before making the nomination.

To submit a nomination, send the name, company and a brief statement of qualification including both professional experience and Association involvement. All information should be sent to ASBA Call for Nominations, 8480 Baltimore National Pike, #307, Ellicott City, MD 21043, faxed to 410-730-8833 or e-mailed to cynthia@sportsbuilders.org.

Is there a deadline to nominate myself or someone else?

Answer: Yes, the ASBA is currently accepting nominations through June 15, 2013. Any nominations must be received at the ASBA’s office on or by that date.

How do the elections work?

All nominations will be submitted to the Nominations and Elections Committee to ensure that nominees are qualified under the bylaws. A ballot will be developed for submission to the membership in late summer with the election, and any run-off ballots, completed prior to the Technical Meeting. New officers and directors will assume their positions at the conclusion of the Technical Meeting in December.

Can I nominate two people from the same company if they are both qualified?

Answer: No. No person may be a candidate for the Board of Directors or for any given position if the election of such person could cause any member company to have more than one employee serving as an officer or director of the Association at the same time.

If I have other questions....

Answer: Procedural questions regarding nominations or elections should be addressed to the Chair of the Nominating and Elections Committee, Mike Edgerton, CTCB, at 518-766-2932, or Fred Stringfellow, CAE, Executive Director, at 443-640-1042, x102.
