ASBA’s Technical Meeting is easily its most popular each year, and this
year’s was no exception. With record-breaking attendance, a booming
trade show, an outstanding program and the added bonus of warm, sunny
weather, the event set the bar high.
Held in Orlando, Florida at the Doubletree Hotel at the Entrance to
Universal, the meeting kicked off with keynote speaker Steve Gilliland,
who taught ASBA members to “Enjoy the Ride” that is life, and to
appreciate its unexpected moments of humor, learning and friendship
along the way.
The meeting saw outstanding technical programming, with sessions for
each membership division (tennis, track, fields and indoor) as well as
general business topics relevant to all company managers. (For some
specific examples of articles, see elsewhere in this newsletter). Want a
sneak peek at some of the other presentations? PowerPoints and other
materials are available free to all members on ASBA’s website,
www.sportsbuilders.org.
ASBA made this the year to debut its certification videos, which
publicize the Association’s certification program. For a look at the
videos, go to the ASBA website. The videos, which were shot using
certified members’ construction projects as a backdrop, will be
instrumental in raising awareness of the certification program, and
additionally, of the importance of quality construction in sports
facilities.
The meeting also made great use of downtime. Receptions, coffee breaks
and some meals were held in the exhibit hall -- which showcased products
and services relevant to the sports facility construction industry.
Attendees were also able to take advantage of the option to play tennis
and golf at ASBA’s popular (and sometimes infamous) tournaments. (For
more information on these events -- and their outcomes -- see the
article elsewhere in this newsletter).
If you didn’t get to attend this meeting, it can only mean one thing:
it’s time to start making plans for the next one. ASBA’s 2013 Technical
Meeting will run December 6-10 and will be held in San Antonio, Texas.
More information on this meeting will be forthcoming.
