New Fields Book Available

ASBA is pleased to announce the publication of the second edition of
Sports Fields: A Construction and Maintenance Manual.
Copies of the new edition of the book are now available at the cost of
$44.95 each. Books can be ordered by contacting the Association directly
at 866-501-ASBA (2722), or by going to the web site,
www.sportsbuilders.org.
The book contains information for those interested in building or
learning more about all types of sports fields. It includes
user-friendly technical information on all aspects of fields, including
design, budgeting and planning, site requirements, drainage, surface
selection, construction, maintenance, repair, amenities and accessories
and more. In addition, it includes diagrams, photos, governing bodies
and further sources of information.
Whereas the previous edition of the book provided information on
synthetic turf fields, this publication will cover both natural grass
and synthetic turf, making it useful to a wider readership.
"We're really pleased that ASBA is able to offer the new sports fields
book," says Dan Wright, president of the fields division of ASBA. "We
think that with its new expanded focus, it is going to be a great
reference for owners, architects and anyone else who is considering
constructing a new field or renovating an existing field. Although the
book is primarily written and published by ASBA, the Sports Turf
Managers Association and ASTM had direct input into the book and are
co-sponsors of it as well. We are very proud to have their input,
participation and endorsement of this book."
A group of committed volunteers worked on revising the previous
publication, and on prioritizing and editing the new information to be
included. Because ASBA always strives to keep its publications updated
(in addition to the new Sports Fields book, the Association publishes
Tennis Courts: A Construction and Maintenance Manual, Running
Tracks: A Construction and Maintenance Manual, and Indoor Sports
Surfaces: An Installation Manual), it is always seeking assistance
from volunteers interested in helping review, edit and suggest new
content. Those who are interested should contact the ASBA. Note: Some
book discussions will be taking place at the Winter Meeting, for those
who are interested.
